Dengue fever is a viral illness caused by dengue virus.Dengue virus is transmitted to humans by bites of two kinds of mosquitoes; Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus,both of which have characteristic white spots on their back which makes it easy to identify them.

Wear full sleeves shirts.
Avoid sitting outside in the evenings and morning since dengue mosquitoes mostly bite during this time.
Apply mosquito repellant lotion on hands feet face and any other exposed skin.
Drain buckets,vases,any open reserviors,water coolers which can act as a nest for dengue larvae because dengue mosquitoes lay eggs in fresh standing water.
Mosquito spray your homes under the bed and cupboards to kill the mosquitoes.
Use mosquito nets if there is an outbreak in your area.

How to know if you have been infected with dengue fever and how to get treatment:
If you have fever and any of the following two signs you should visit the nearest hospital or lab to get your CBC(complete blood profile) done because u are suspected of having dengue fever.
Headache
Pain in the eyes
Backache
Abdominal pain
Purplish marks or spots on the body
Bleeding through mouth,nose or anus
If your blood profile shows white blood count(wbc) less than 4000 and platelet count less than 100000 then you probably have dengue and need to be admitted to a hospital to get dengue serology testing.

If you have a blood profile like this then it would be best for you to get admitted to a hospital.meanwhile drink plenty of water and juices.
